Exhibition on ethnic minority groups opens in Hanoi
An exhibition on Vietnam’s ethnic groups opened in
Hanoi on May 9, highlighting their contributions to national defence and
construction.
The four-day event, jointly held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism
and the Committee for Ethnic Affairs, is a major cultural festival of ethnic
groups to welcome the 120th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19) and the
first National Congress of Minority Groups.
The exhibition opened with musical performances by artists dressed in
traditional clothing and divided into six regions.
The exhibition aims to honour and praise the merits and contributions of ethnic
groups in national construction and defence as well as reflect their cultural,
economic and social development during the process of renovation and
integration.
The exhibition is divided into two main areas of ethnic communities in Vietnam
and the work of ministries and departments for those communities. Of which, it
highlights attention and assistance the Party and State given to ethnic
minorities and their cultures along with the display of books, newspapers,
magazines and other cultural products that serve ethnic minorities, as well as
their socio-economic achievements from 2005 to 2009.
“Over an area of 1,800 square metres, the exhibition introduces specific
characteristics of ethnic cultures,” said Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and
Tourism Huynh Vinh Ai.
“Through photos, documentations and objects, the exhibition is a vivid
representation of the groups, their achievements in economic development and
their devotion to developing and protecting the country,” he added.
The exhibition will runs until May 14 at the Vietnam Culture and Arts Exhibition
Centre, 2 Hoa Lu street, Hanoi.
