Vietnam, Mexico strengthen tourism, culture and sports cooperation
Vietnam’s Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism,
Hoang Tuan Anh met with his Mexican counterpart and reached agreements to
intensify bilateral relations during a visit to Mexico from May 23-28.
The two sides agreed to exchange delegations and documents, to hold exhibitions
and culture weeks, to push to sign a three-year cooperation agreement in the
field of sports, and to seek effective measures to carry out previous agreements
on culture and tourism.
Both countries committed to assisting to each other to organise cultural events
and major festivals such as the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi, the
120th birthday of Late President Ho Chi Minh and Mexico’s 200 years of
Independence and the 100-year anniversary of its Revolution.
In the field of sports, Minister Anh suggested exchanging the coaches of
Vietnam’s wushu, taekwondo and shooting teams, and Mexico’s springboard and
football teams. Leaders of Mexico’s National Commission for Physical Culture and
Sports handed over to Vietnam a draft bilateral cooperation agreement and
promised to visit Hanoi in August.
The Vietnamese side proposed that Mexico support the vote for Ha Long Bay to
become one of the seven new natural wonders of the world. Also, Vietnam
committed to join in the American International Tourism Fair to be held in
Mexico in September and the Mexican side agreed to send a delegation to take
part in a tourism fair in Ho Chi Minh City this year.
In addition, Minister Hoang Tuan Anh laid a wreath at the Ho Chi Minh statue in
a park in Mexico City and visited some historical-cultural relics. He also met
with staff at Vietnam’s embassy in Mexico.
