Hanoi Craft Week 2010 scheduled in August
With the theme "Thousand Years Quintessence," the
second annual Hanoi Craft Week will be held from August 4-9 at the Hanoi
Friendship Cultural Palace to celebrate Hanoi’s anniversary and the national
tourism year in Hanoi.
With thousands of years of history, Hanoi is known as a land that epitomizes
Vietnam. With the famous name "Land of One Hundred Jobs", Hanoi produces about
80 percent of the fine arts and handicrafts in the country. In recent years,
traditional craft villages such as Van Phuc silk, Bat Trang pottery, Phu Vinh
rattan and bamboo, Chuyen My mother-of-pearl and Ha Thai lacquer are more widely
known both inside and outside Vietnam not only for their cultural achievements,
but also for their social and economic values.
The upcoming Hanoi Craft Week 2010, held by the Hanoi Department of Trade and
Industry and Abix JSC, will introduce the heart of Hanoi’s craft villages.
The event is designed with several main programs and a number of supportive
activities, including: Hanoi handicraft showroom 2010; Seminar “Hanoi
traditional craft villages – Potential for development and tourism”, Traditional
craft village tour to Bat Trang (Ceramic), Van Phuc( Silk), Phu Vinh (Rattan and
bamboo), Ha Thai (Mother of pearl), Chuyen My (Lacquer); Gift model design
contest for Hanoi’s 1000th Anniversary, which is open to Vietnamese people
studying and working around the world and also foreigners in Vietnam; Jewelry
and fashion show; Performance of craftsmen and skilled craft workers; and
business matching program.
At the Hanoi Craft Week 2010, craftsmen and skilled workers from 13 villages
will be selected typical turn performed the operation including: Pottery (Bat
Trang), Wood sculpture (Thiet Ung và Son Dong), Lacquer (Duyen Thai), Mosaic
(Professional United States) and three mosaic, Cast bronze (Dinh Cong), Bamboo
and Rattan (Phu Vinh), embroidery and embroidered art restoration (Quat Dong),
achieved gold and silver (Quy Kieu Ky ), Silk flowers, Flower land.
Visitors who come to the event can witness jewelry being made from silver, pearl
or horn, plus view fashion products made from traditional materials such as silk
and decorated with hand embroidery.
The Hanoi People’s Committee has ratified the Hanoi Craft Week as an annual
event since 2009, aiming to attract the participation of both domestic and
international companies as well as partners trading in the field of handicrafts
and traditional trade villages.
Currently Hanoi has 1220 craft villages, with 256 that have a long tradition of
craft production.
