Tourism makes its way to sub-Mekong region
The central province of Quang Tri on June 27
hosted a conference on tourism cooperation with two provinces from Laos and
Thailand. The annual event, the sixth of its kind so far, drew Vice Chairman of
Quang Tri provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chinh, Deputy Governor of
Savannakhet of Laos Suphan Keomisay and Deputy Governor Priasil Sommai of
Thailand’s Mukdahan province.
The trio signed up a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), pledging to further
streamline entry-exit procedures and facilitate convenience in transportation of
tourists in line with law of individual countries.
The MoU also highlighted mutual tourist promotion, tourist infrastructure
development and encouraging partnership or joint ventures between travel agents
from the three provinces.
Progress has been made in tourist cooperation among the three provinces since
the previous meeting’s MoU signed in last September, according to a report on
the fifth MoU implementation.
The report cited achievements in entry-exit procedures, tourist promotion
campaign, tourist products diversification and tour programme expansion to
neighbouring provinces.
The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism highly spoke of progress made by
the three provinces in the East-West Corridor tourism.
