Thrilling experience at Mui Dinh
Mui Dinh, or Dinh Cape, is a high and
out-of-the-way rock mount hidden in a remote area in Phuoc Dinh Commune in Ninh
Thuan Province’s Ninh Phuoc District. The site endowed with magnificent
surroundings and ideal climate is suggested as good option for nature and
adventure lovers.
Nearly 40 kilometers from Phan Rang Commune and near Ca Na Beach, Mui Dinh and
nearby Son Hai Fishing Village seem to bring visitors to another world of
stillness and peace, different from the outside world of hustles and bustles.
Mui Dinh boasts its charm with a lighthouse standing imposingly with the height
of 178 meters. The lighthouse was built in 1908 in front of a two-storey house
in French colonial architecture. The site used to be an important military base
so it still preserves some gun emplacements, a kitchen, remains of radar
scanners and rusted warheads.
Through ups and downs of history and industrial development during more than a
century, the lighthouse still illuminates silently onto the ocean where ships
and boats drift in the mixed noise of sailors and the waves.
Adventure lovers may be shuddered by strong wind wailing through slits in the
doors of the house, creating mysterious howls at night. In the old house with
thick walls and very long corridors, the howls evoke a thrilling sensation in
the darkness.
Not located on an island but Mui Dinh is completely deserted and bears few
traces of human settlement or industrial development. The site is still
unfamiliar for tourists as the way leading there is so rocky and bumpy. Visitors
have to walk about 10 kilometers along the coastline, then trek to the mountain
with dangerous and torturous sections in about one hour. Therefore, tourists
should hire a local fisherman in Son Hai Fishing Village to take a motor taxi
trip. Good preparation for cloths, water, snacks is necessary for the long
journey.
During the way up to the mount, sloping mountainsides in one side and abyss in
the other would bring visitors exciting and even risky feelings. However, all
sweat and fear will be repelled by splendid surroundings and endless sand dunes
as if tourists get lost in a desert.
Standing in the lighthouse to take a panoramic view of below scenery where
shimmering figures of ships are vaporous under the twinkles of stars and the
moon in the sky, tourists will forget tetchiness of daily life, tiredness of the
long journey and escape from the noise of city life.
