Hoa Hao Buddhist Sect celebrates its 71st anniversary

More than 200,000 dignitaries and followers of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Sect gathered at An Hoa pagoda in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang from June 27-29 to celebrate the 71st anniversary of the religious sect.
Over the past years, the sect’s executive council has brought into full play its internal strengths, promoted unity among its followers and encouraged them to live and work according to its Charter and State law.
Under the motto “For Dharma and the Nation”, Hoa Hao Buddhist followers have actively participated in many humanitarian activities, such as building houses and bridges for the poor in rural areas, granting scholarship for outstanding disadvantaged students and providing financial assistance for poor patients.
Tran Thanh Toc, Deputy President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s An Giang provincial chapter, acknowledged the Hoa Hao Sect’s contributions to the nation’s construction and renewal process.
He called on Hoa Hao Buddhists to unite and fully observe the Party and State’s consistent policies, live an evangelical life and join hands to make further contributions to their homelands and the nation.
At present, there are more than two million Hoa Hao followers across the country, including over 800,000 in An Giang province.
