Buddhist festival to mark Hanoi’s millennial anniversary
The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) will organise a
grand festival at the Thang Long Royal Citadel from July 22 to August 2 to
celebrate the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi.
The festival, themed “drink water remember its source”, will pay tribute to all
the ancestors who contributed to building Thang Long-Hanoi, as well as to the
founders of Vietnamese Buddhism, and will commemorate those martyrs who laid
down their lives for national independence and freedom.
The event will give visitors an insight into the Thang Long Royal Citadel’s
1,000-year old history of development under royal dynasties.
The most Venerable Thich Thanh Nha, Deputy Head of the Hanoi Buddhist Sangha’s
Executive Board, says the festival illustrates the harmonious relationship
between the State and Buddhism.
