Foreign visitors to Vietnam rise sharply
The number of foreign tourists to Vietnam in the
first seven months of the year reached 2.93 million, up 34.9 percent over the
same period of last year, says the General Statistic Office.
China has the most visitors to Vietnam with 512,000. It was followed by the
Republic of Korea with 289,000, the US, 267,000, and Japan 240,000.
According to specialists, this is the result of tourism policies and promotion
campaigns by tourism businesses for the capital’s millennial anniversaries and
other major celebrations.
They said businesses should take full advantage of Vietnam’s ASEAN chairmanship
to promote the country’s image and improve the quality of services and
infrastructure. This is the most effective way to attract more foreign tourists
to Vietnam.
In 2010, the tourism sector has set a target of welcoming about 4.2 million
visitors to the country.
