Festival held to promote capital’s cultural values

Every citizen in the capital should take responsibility for preserving and promoting Hanoi’s 1000-year history and culture, declared Politburo member Pham Quang Nghi at the Thang Long –Hanoi Culture Festival held yesterday at the Hanoi Friendship Culture Palace.
The festival was held on the 5-year review of Programme No. 08 of the Hanoi Party Committee on ‘Developing Culture and Creating an Image of Elegant and Civilized Hanoians in Anticipating of the 1000th Anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi’ and to honour the traditional cultural beauty of Hanoians.
Addressing the ceremony, Politburo member Nghi, who is also Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, stressed that Hanoi’s cultural traditions are a priceless treasure not only for Hanoians but also the entire polulation. He urged all sectors and the public to raise their awareness of the culture’s significance and use it as the spiritual foundation, target and driving force of the country’s socio-economic development.
Also at the festival, outstanding collectives and individuals were presented with certificates of merit for their contributions to the campaigns ‘The Whole Nation Unites to Build up a Cultural Lifestyle’ and the ‘Day for Poor People’. They shared their experiences lessons learnt from the campaigns in their localities.
The programme also featured various performances of music and dance, a dragon dance, a drum dance and ‘Bai Bong’ traditional dance performed by folk artists form Thanh Tri and Phu Xuyen districts.
The event was held jointly by the Party Committee, the People’s Council, the People’s Committee and the Fatherland Front of Hanoi.
