Craft villages set national records
Artisans from some craft villages have made special artworks that will be
recognized as Vietnam records. These items were introduced at a press conference
on September 10.
The first is a fan made by artisan Duong Van Mo and Phi Quang Bo from Chang Son
fan-making village in Thanh Oai district, Hanoi. This is the largest wood-made
fan in Vietnam, which is 9m wide, 4.5m high. The fan is made from teak and pine,
plus silk and rattan.
The second record is a rattan and bamboo-made flower vase of 6.5m high, 120kg,
1.2m of bottom diameter. The vase body is knitted by rattan, featuring Hanoi’s
three famous architectural works – Khue Van Cac, One-pillar Pagoda and Turtle
Tower. The neck is knitted with dragon images. The vase is also decorated by ten
rattan-made flowers with lamps inside. This vase was made by artisan Nguyen
Phuong Quang from October 2007 to November 2009.
The third item is a wood-carved “Chieu Doi Do” (Royal Edict for Moving the
Capital) by King Ly Cong Uan with 218 scripts inlaid by mother-of-pearl, made by
artisan Dang Ban.
The fourth item is a 50m long ceramic-made Hanoi ancient street made by ceramic
artist Nguyen Manh Tuan.
The fourth item is two ao dai designed by Lan Huong. They are 10 meter long. The
ao dai for man is embroidered with 1000 dragons while the one for woman is
embroidered with 1000 phoenixes.
These items will be displayed at Hanoi’s Bach Thao park from September 16-21.
