Vietnamese in Germany celebrate Hanoi’s millennium
Gatherings have been held by many overseas
Vietnamese associations in Germany to mark the 1000th anniversary of Thang
Long-Hanoi.
On October 3, the capital’s 1000th birthday was celebrated at the Dong Xuan
Trade Centre in Berlin, with representatives from the Vietnamese Embassy in
Germany, the Association of Fellow Countrymen, the Business Association and the
Vietnamese Servicemen’s Association attending the event along with hundreds of
members from the Hanoians’ Association
After the salute to the flag, the participants observed a minute of silence to
commemorate their predecessors who had laid down their lives to build
Hanoi-Thang Long over the past 1000 years.
In his speech, Vice Chairman of the Hanoians’ Association in Germany, Nham Huu
Phuong, highlighted important landmarks in the 1000-year-old history of Thang
Long Hanoi since King Ly Thai To transferred the capital to Dai La Citadel,
opening up new opportunities for national construction and development.
Counselor and Head of the Committee for Community-based Activities, Phan Y Nhi,
praised the Hanoians’ Association for launching a variety of activities to
celebrate the capital’s millennium which bear all the hallmarks of Hanoians.
Earlier the same day, a fourth get-together was held by the Kinh Bac Association
of Fellow Countrymen in Germany to mark the anniversary, in the presence of the
Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany, Do Hoa Binh, and his wife.
During the meeting, participants enjoyed folk songs and performances of
Vietnamese arts recognised by UNESCO as part of humankind’s intangible culture.
