Nearly 1 million foreigners visit Hanoi

During the Great Festival to celebrate 1,000th Anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi, which took place from October 1st-10th, the capital city welcomed around 1.2 million domestic visitors and over 30,000 international tourists, Truong Minh Tien, Deputy Head of the Hanoi’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism told Hanoimoi Newspaper.
In the first nine months of this year, Hanoi received around 9 million domestic tourists, up by 40%, and 960,000 foreign ones, up by 15% compared to the same period last year.
According to Tien, the great success of the Great Festival greatly contributed to promoting the capital city’s image to the world.
It is estimated that number of international tourists coming to Hanoi will continue to rise in the forthcoming time. From now until the end of the National Tourism Year 2010, Hanoi’s tourism sector will focus on enhancing quality of tourism services and launching more special tours and programs.
The city is also expected to receive a total of 1.4 million foreign tourists and 11 million domestic visitors in 2010.
