Northern provinces attract visitors

The tourism program “Returning to Roots” launched by three northern provinces of Lao Cai, Yen Bai and Phu Tho, has attracted more than 2 million visitors in 2010.
The Lao Cai Province’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism met yesterday to review its tourism cooperation program. They agreed that the program had contributed to restoring and preserving traditional customs and cultural identities of local ethnic groups and at the same time helped improve local people’s living standards.
The same day, an international tourist tour to hoist the flag marking Hanoi’s 1,000th anniversary on the peak of Fansipan Mountain was launched in Sapa Town, in Lao Cai Province. Nearly 100 climbers started climbing to conquer the Fansipan in a favourable weather conditions. Prizes will be handed over to the winner’s tomorrow evening.
