Vietnamese Cultural Heritage Days to be held
This year's Vietnamese Cultural Heritage Days,
under the theme ‘Imprints of Thang Long-Hanoi and feelings of the Youth towards
Vietnamese Cultural Heritage’ will be held from November 20-24 at the Vietnam
Exhibition Centre for Culture and Arts, 2 Hoa Lu Street in Hanoi.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in collaboration with the Hanoi
People’s Committee, the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Association and other
partners, has planned an elaborate celebration that will take place in the
capital over four days.
During Vietnam Cultural Heritage Days, many exhibitions will be held to
introduce visitors the culture heritage of Vietnam and cultural features of
Thang Long – Hanoi.
The highlight of the event is the exhibition on the Thang Long Royal Citadel,
which was recently recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Covering 200
square metres, the display will be arranged in three categories: an overview of
the site and its architecture, the important role it has played as a national
political and cultural centre from the early 11th to 18th centuries, and the
changes the citadel has undergone through various historical periods.
Another exhibition entitled ‘Thang Long Antiquities’ will display 500 artifacts
arranged by historical periods, from the 1st to 10th centuries through the Dinh,
Le, Ly, and Tran dynasties up to the Nguyen dynasty in the 20th century. Many of
the items on display will be shown in public for the first time, according to
the UNESCO Vietnam Centre for Antiquity Preservation and Research which
organised the exhibition.
Two hundred documents and publications as well as 30 paintings and pictures
about Hanoi in the past and present will also be on show as well as displays
featuring the customs, traditional crafts and cuisine that make up the essence
of the capital.
The event also includes the photo exhibition of the Temple of Literature in the
past showcasing 80 photographs taken between 1913 and 1925, depicting the
establishment and development of the first university in Vietnam, its 82
doctoral stone steles from the Le and Mac dynasties (1442-1779) that have been
recognised as a UNESCO World Documentary Heritage, and the country’s tradition
of learning.
Vietnamese Cultural Heritage Days will also include the participation of
students and young people in a variety of activities such as folk games, costume
shows and traditional arts performances.
As part of the event, a seminar on ‘Preservation and Promotion of Thang
Long-Hanoi Tangible and Intangible Cultural Heritage’ will be organised on
November 23, followed by an art performance programme at the Au Co Arts Centre
in Hanoi, which will be broadcast live on Vietnam Television.
