New architectural attractions in Hoi An
Wonderful architecture in the ancient town of Hoi
An, is one of the attractions to lure a large number of visitors to the famous
tourist site in Central Vietnam every year. The architectural beauty is
reflected not only in buildings with sophisticated decorations but also in
houses with simple designs.
The rapid development of many luxury resorts around the old town has created a
new face of a more dynamic and developed town for Hoi An. However, it also
brought opportunities and challenges for investors who built the Life Heritage
Resort Hoi An.
Before the Life Heritage Resort Hoi An was built, some projects, such as
Victoria Hoi An, Hoi An Riverside, Brother's café, and others, contributed to
creating a new image for the architecture of Hoi An.
Architectural impressions of Victoria Hoi An come from special designs on walls
and roofs, similar to characteristics typical of houses in the old town. In
particular, there are several beautiful kinds of roofs with different shapes.
Wandering around the resort, visitors feel as if they are standing somewhere in
the center of the old town.
With the careful design based on the Champa statue garden and images of flowers,
the architecture of Hoi An Riverside reminds visitors of the spirit of the
Champa culture in Hoi An, when the site was the old town named Lam Ap.
Located on Phan Boi Chau Street, Brother's Café was designed in the traditional
architecture style with front and back houses. The difference is that gardens
are replaced by rest-rooms and outdoor wells. Interiors of the houses were made
of wood, featuring Hoi An’s cultural identities.
Surprisingly, Heritage Resort Hoi An’s architecture attracts visitors by its
simple design. The resort includes two storey buildings with wide corridors,
columns and arches. This design is familiar to the Colonial architecture in late
19th and early 20th century, as seen on Phan Boi Chau and Nguyen Thai Hoc
streets.
Henk Herman, architect of Heritage Resort Hoi An, paid more attention to the
design of three corridors, featuring the Asian architecture. Each corridor is
not just for traffic but also for other functions, such as a reception, check-in
services and outdoor library. In a small size, a character typical of old houses
in Hoi An, these corridors have made a architectural attraction of the resort.
In particular, the peaceful scene of Hoi An told the architect that it was not
necessary to build gates and doors. Without gates and doors, Phan Boi Chau and
Nguyen Hong Thai streets seem to be longer. Sometimes, visitors think that this
is a shortcut to the Doai River when crossing the Heritage Resort Hoi An by
chance.
Both old and new houses in Hoi An town reflect different architectural genera,
which help visitors learn more about the history and culture of the old town.
