Tourism workforce training should follow market demand

A project of tourism workforce training for real demand of market which is sponsored by The Luxembourg Government, will be developed in 9 Colleges of Tourism in Vietnam.
The first session meeting of the Steering Commitee of project VIE/301 "Developing human resource in Hotel and Tourism Sector of Vietnam" was held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Lux-Development on November 16.
The above project will last from 2010 to 2012 with a total sponsor of EUR 3,384 million including EUR 430,000 of Vietnam.
Director of project's managing board, Mr.Nguyen Van Luu said "Most of Colleges of Tourism are short of experienced lecturers, who should train human resources for the real demand of tourism companies, but they just focus on teaching theories". Therefore in Vietnam, the project VIE/031 will focus on the human resource development in key tourist areas.
The project will concentrate on increasing the training quantity and quality at selected colleges, developing workforce with an interantional- standard,widenning and ungrading training campus. Furthermore, an essential program at national level will be also developed to equip academic-knowledge for teaching staff as well as to train English for leaders, managers, teachers and students in conformity with the demand of tourism industry.
"Luxembourg's Government has been sponsoring many tourism training projects in Vietnam, and we hoped the project will help improve knowledge, skills, practical understandings for the tourism workforce, meeting requirements of increasing development of tourism industry" Head of Project's Steering Committe, Mr. Tran Chien Thang said.
