Cam Ranh Bay to overhaul infrastructure for major development plan
The People’s Committee of central Khanh Hoa
province has approved a plan to develop Cam Ranh Bay area by 2025.
The plan is aimed to turn the area into a centre of services, industries,
transport and a regional and world sea tourism hub.
Urban areas will be built along National Highway 1A, mainly located in Cam Ranh
Town and the new town of Cam Duc in Cam Lam district.
By 2025, the Cam Ranh Bay area could accommodate around 227,000 people,
including 179,000 living in urban areas. The area for the construction of urban
areas would be over 3,500 hectares.
Cam Ranh International Airport is expected to welcome 8 million passengers and
200,000 tonnes of cargo per year by 2030.
The North-South expressway route will be built west of the bay and will be
parallel with the North-South high-speed railway that the government is studying
the feasibility to submit to the National Assembly for approval.
The province will also upgrade Ba Ngoi Seaport to serve ships with a capacity of
up to 30,000 dead weight tonnage and handle 10.2 million tonnes of cargo
annually by 2020.
Cam Ranh will still operate as a military seaport with 14 wharves which can
receive ships of 20,000 dead weight tonnage and 35 million tonnes of cargo per
year.
