First countdown party on New Year’s Eve in Vietnam

The Countdown Party to welcome the 2011 New Year will be held for the first time in the square of Hanoi Opera House on the evening of December 31.
The party will begin from 9 pm and celebrations are expected to continue until after midnight.
At the centre of the square, there will be a huge screen with a countdown clock on all sides. A six-metre high stage will be erected for performances by three Djs, with two from Sweden and the US and one from Vietnam. Well-known Vietnamese female singer, My Linh and talented musician and singer, Nguyen Duc Cuong will perform on stage.
The first party was held in 1907 and parties have been conducted in major cities throughout the world, such as Sydney, Paris, Tokyo, and Hong Kong, creating a global cultural event.
