Special program to commemorate late artist Quach Thi Ho
The Vietnam Museum of Ethnology will host a
special program to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the passing of People’s
Artist Quach Thi Ho, a reputed Ca Tru singer of Vietnam in the 20th century.
During the program, artists and singers from UNESCO Ceremonial Song Center, Hai
Phong Ceremonial Song Club of Folk Letters and Arts Association and some reputed
artists will sing a number of ceremonial songs. Besides, the life and career of
People’s Artist Quach Thi Ho will be also reviewed to help spectators know more
about her.
Artist Quach Thi Ho was born in 1909 into a traditional family of ceremonial
singers in Hai Duong Province. Her mother, aunts and she herself had several
joint performances when she was 6 years old. At the age of 8, she was popular in
her musical school and two years later, she became the key singer of that
school.
Even when she was as young as 15, she was famous for her gifted voice across
Thang Long Imperial City.
Her performance recorded in a video tape won the best award at the Asia Music
Forum held in Pyongyang, Democratic People's Republic of Korea in 1983. Five
years later, she was titled “People’s Artist”. She was also nominated by the
State as one of the world’s legendary women in 1999.
Attentively, UNESCO International Music Council presented her an honorary
certificate and expressed their gratitude to her for her preservation of a
traditional noble art heritage of Vietnam, a treasure of all mankind.
