Mekong River Delta attracts visitors
The Mekong River Delta region welcomed more than
16.2 million domestic and foreign visitors last year.. This is an increase of
10.7% compared to the 2009’s figure with earnings of more than 2,870 billion VND,
up by 19.85% over the previous year.
These statistics were revealed by Mr. Truong Giang, Secretary General of the
Mekong River Delta Tourism Association, at a conference to review its operation
in 2010, and to work out plans for 2011.
The number of domestic and foreign visitors to the region in 2010 also increased
sharply. In particular, the revenue from Can Tho’s tourism reached more than 647
billion VND, up 27.48% compared to the 2009’s figure.
According to the Association, the five most favourite tourist sites in the
region were My Khanh tourist village in Can Tho; Nui Cam tourism area in An
Giang; Thoi Son tourism area in Tien Giang; Ca Mau Culture Tourism Park in Ca
Mau; and Ho Nuoc Ngot Culture Exhibition Centre in Soc Trang.
This year, the Association will focus on improving the quality of tourist
services and products, and tourism promotion, to fully exploit the region’s
tourism potential.
