Air Mekong flies back to Danang, raises frequencies

Vietnam’s private airline Air Mekong on Tuesday confirmed resumption of scheduled services to Danang and more frequencies on other routes to provide the market with more seats during the peak season for domestic air travel.
Truong Thanh Vu, director of commercial services at Air Mekong, told the Daily on the phone that the start-up airline would fly daily between HCMC and Danang from January 20 to serve people going home for their family reunions in Danang during the country’s biggest holiday Tet.
Air Mekong had to suspend its services to Danang in early December last year, about two weeks after the carrier started services to the central coastal city, because of low seating capacity on its 90-seat Bombardier CRJ-900 aircraft.
Air Mekong has also decided to operate two daily flights between HCMC and Buon Ma Thuot and Pleiku cities from January 26. Vu said the carrier would fly twice on the HCMC-Pleiku route until February 9 but a longer period for the HCMC-Buon Ma Thuot route.
Air Mekong will conduct eight flights between HCMC and Hanoi just days ahead the Lunar New Year holiday. Therefore, Vu said passengers had an opportunity to book a limited number of tickets for the flights on this south-north route and other certain routes in the run up to Tet.
Jetstar Pacific said air-tickets had already been sold out for its Tet flights while Vietnam Airlines still has seats on its flights on certain days and routes but applies the ‘first come, first served” principle, particularly for the passengers on the waiting list for its extra flights.
Vu said Air Mekong was planning more frequencies to Phu Quoc and Con Dao after Tet because a great number of local and foreign tourists usually traveled to these islands off Kien Giang and Ba Ria-Vung Tau provinces for their vacations after Tet and in summertime.
