Sai San spring festival

The Sai San Spring Festival has been organised at the foot of Hoang Lien Mountain in Sa Pa district, northern Lao Cai province to pray for timely rains and favourable weather, good luck for local people and prosperity for their families in the New Year.
As this year’s event coincides with Valentine Day locals and young tourists have had the chance to attend many activities of Mong ethnic minority people in the early spring.
Ma A Nu, Chairman of the San Sa Ho Village People’s Committee, says the traditional festival used to be called Gau Tao in the past for its strong association with the spring festival of the mountainous district.
After the opening ceremony on February 13th, hundreds of amateur athletes competed in folk games, including mountain climb, blind-man’s buff, tug-of-war, crossbow shooting, bamboo-bridge crossing and pole climb to get gifts.
