HCMC’s hotels enjoy high occupancy this month
Luxury hotels in HCMC are enjoying high occupancy
rates this month, currently standing at over 80% these days owing to a large
number of international guests flowing into the city to attend conferences.
Hotels such as the Grand, Sheraton Saigon Hotel & Towers, New World Saigon,
Duxton, and Majestic said the business this month is very well compared to the
year-ago period.
The biggest logistics conference attended by around 1,600 participants in
District 7 is contributing greatly to the high occupancy rate at many high-end
hotels in the city during these days.
“Many guests from the conference are staying at our hotel. Our occupancy on
Wednesday is 94%. We even didn’t have any room left on Sunday,” Dang Huy Hai,
deputy general director of the 550-room New World Saigon Hotel, told the Daily.
He said the room occupancy started to mount on February 10, or the eighth day on
the lunar calendar. Normally, the hotel has low occupancy after the Lunar New
Year holiday in February, but this month’s occupancy is expected to hit 75%
compared to 57% in the same month of last year.
Nguyen Anh Vu, general director of the Majestic hotel, said that the hotel was
almost fully booked in recent days, with many guests being participants in the
logistics conference mentioned above.
“We even have 100% occupancy in some days like this Saturday. On Wednesday we
reach 91%, and expect have an average occupancy rate of 82% for the whole month.
It’s very high because the rate was only 55% last February,” he said.
At the Sheraton Saigon Hotel & Towers, the room occupancy also peaked at 99%.
Businessmen are staying at the hotels for many conferences there along with
guests from the logistics conference.
Many other high-end hotels in districts 1 and 5 also reported occupancy of over
77% this Monday.
Hoteliers also said about the uptrend of foreign businessmen coming to the city.
“The number of business guests is higher at our hotel, which is quite good
because we are focusing more on the high spending guests,” Vu of the Majestic
said.
Hai of the New World said the hotel business was much better now compared to
last year.
“Bookings for the first six months of this year are very good,” he said.
The city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has estimated around
310,000 foreign visitors to HCMC this month, up 8% year-on-year. The tourism
revenue is expected at VND4.3 trillion this month, up 34%.
