The PWA World Cup Mui Ne-Vietnam 2011 wrapped up
with an awards ceremony and closing party at Sealinks Beach Phan Thiet in Binh
Thuan Province on Saturday.
The event was a success both for the competitors and local tourism, Nguyen Van
Thu, vice president of Binh Thuan Province’s People’s Committee, said.
The organizing committee awarded the winners in the slalom category. Bjoru
Dunkerbeck (Switzerland) and Sarah Quita Offringa (Aruba) were men’s and women’s
winners respectively. Antoine Albeau (France) and Jimmy Diaz (U.S) came second
and third in the men’s slalom while Karin Jaggi (Switzerland) and Morane Demont
(France) were second and third in the women’s.
Jimmy Diaz, president of PWA, said, “This is the first PWA world cup to be held
in Vietnam, and Mui Ne-Phan Thiet has contributed a lot to the success of the
event. The locality has ideal weather conditions, facilities and friendly people
for windsurfing and other world class sea sports.”
“Mui Ne will be the first choice to organize annual PWA cups,” Diaz added.
This year the PWA attracted 72 professional athletes, 28 of them are women, from
28 countries and territories competing in two disciplines, slalom and freestyle.
The event which took place from Feb. 25 to Mar. 5, was organized by Binh Thuan
Province’s People’s Committee, Professional Windsurfers Association (PWA) and
