RMS Queen Mary 2 takes over 2,000 tourists to Nha Trang
The “Queen Mary 2”, part of the Cunard Line, now
the world’s second largest passenger liner by weight (but on her delivery date
(in 2003) she was the largest), on March 21st, brought 2,430 tourists from 20
countries and territories and 1,230 crewmembers and staff to visit the coastal
city of Nha Trang in Khanh Hoa Province.
According to Mr. Do Thanh Long from Hai Long Co. Ltd., which is Queen Mary’s
shipping agent, Nha Trang is the only stop in Vietnam where the Queen Mary 2
docked on its route around the world.
Of the international tourists, 991 are from UK, 750 from Australia, 310 from the
USA and 108 from Canada.
The Queen Mary 2 is considerably bigger than the infamous RMS Titanic and 45m
longer than the current biggest carriers.
This passenger liner was built on January 16, 2002 by Chantelier de I’Atlantique
in Saint Nazaire, France and launched in Southampton, UK in 2004. On its board
includes 15 restaurants and bars, 5 swimming pools, 1 casino, 1 theatre and 1
planetarium. “RMS” is an honorific title conferred on her by the British
Government, similar to other ships in the Cunard Line, like the Queen Elizabeth
II and Queen Mary etc, meaning “Royal Mail Ship”.
